For 15 years, The Queen Theater has been a vibrant cultural and economic anchor in downtown Wilmington, more than just a venue, it’s a community clubhouse that brings people together.

Its story began in 1789, when the building first opened as The Indian Queen Hotel, welcoming travelers and sailors passing through the city. From 1916 to 1959, it was transformed into a beloved movie theater, entertaining generations of Wilmington residents. After sitting dormant for more than 50 years, Buccini Pollin Group led the restoration of the historic building, committing to the stewardship of The Queen and reimagining it as the premier live music venue it is today.

Since reopening, The Queen’s impact reached far beyond the stage. It has helped spark the revitalization of Market Street, attracting visitors from across the region, and creating a welcoming space for concerts, celebrations, nonprofit events, educational programs, and civic gatherings.

The Queen 1789 Foundation was established to ensure this legacy continues.
